The show includes over 60 pieces generously donated by St. Benedict the Moor jail ministry. Come and see the creativity and potential that has been all too easy to ignore. Proceeds will go to support the ex-offender programs of the Metro Milwaukee Lutheran Mission Society, whose Basic Backpack Program and New Life Supportive Care Network equip ex-offenders throughout southeastern Wisconsin with the physical tools, emotional support, and spiritual grounding necessary to become productive members of society. Sponsored by the Siebert Lutheran Foundation and others that care.

Modern Art Metal

On Friday March 5, 2010 Gallery 2622 in Wauwatosa will host an artist reception for Gary Eddingsaas’s upcoming show “Modern Art Metal.” Doors will be open from 6-9pm.

Eddingsaas has been regarded as a Calder and David Smith contemporary measuring his sculptures up to nature, exploring balance and the aesthetics of composition.

“I gain serenity from creating sculpture. I can see how things are going to come together in my mind. Line and shape are very important and have to be clean and minimal with a degree of mobility. With that in mind I like my sculptures to be outside all year and interact with the elements.”

A third generation welder from a blue collar family and coming from a challenging past, this has been his second chance. His focus is to make something positive with what he’s been given. It’s been ten years in the making and even has his kids involved with his work.

Hi Everyone! Come join us February 5th from 6pm - 10pm for the opening reception of "Box Project" By Michael K. Julian.

Box Project
We see it everywhere. It's decorative surfaces allure us. However what's behind the design of the box? Originally created for function, Julian deconstructs this very common shape into beautiful form. Utilizing a multitude of mediums, he explores the box's relationship between geometric structure and modern design.

His artwork has been exhibited in NYC, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Chicago and has recieved numerous awards. In 1995 he was a recipient of the Mary L. Nohl Fellowship for Emerging Artists.

Michael K. Julian is an Assistant Professor of Art & Design at the University of Wisconsin. He recieved an MFA in painting from UWM, an MA in painting in Minnesota State University and a BFA at the School of Design at Iowa State University.

Members and friends of Mount Olive Lutheran Church and School are cordially invited to a Silent Art Auction fundraiser. The original works of art in the auction represent some of the finest talent in the Wisconsin and Illinois area. Oil, watercolor, sculpture, glass, clay, photography, textiles, fabric, jewelry and metal work will be some of the media represented. This is an outstanding chance for fun in becoming the winning bidder for original art while helping to sustain Mount Olive and its programs. (Payment to be made by cash or check only.)

Mount Olive is the only Missouri Synod school in the City of Milwaukee that does not accept Choice money from the State of Wisconsin. Proceeds from this fundraiser will go to helping sustain our Sunday radio broadcast, supporting our neighborhood ministries such as Vacation Bible School, the Olive Branch Program that enables families to meet school tuitions, and day-to-day operations of the church.

Gallery 2622 Presents Berel Lutsky

On Friday, October 2nd, 2009 Gallery 2622 in Wauwatosa will host an artist reception for Berel Lutsky’s upcoming show. Doors will be open from 6-9pm.

Berel Lutsky’s work in multiple medias focuses on the interplay of image and language. and the emotions we take from the experience regardless of truth. The lines between fact and fiction, virtual and reality have been blurred more than ever these days. The amount of information in our lives, both visual and verbal should demand we slow down to analyze carefully now causes us to defer to volume and spectacle; ignoring both the sources and manipulation of image and word. As a consequence we ignore the complexities of many truths that drive us to action which often yields disastrous consequences.

Berel Lutsky is an Associate Professor of Art at the University of Wisconsin – Manitowoc. He earned his undergraduate degree in Art with concentration in Printmaking in 1973 from UW Madison and received his MFA in Printmaking and Drawing from UW Milwaukee in 1989. During the time between his undergraduate years and graduate school, Lutsky lived in Israel and was active as an artist and teacher – including a time as visiting artist at the Bezalel School of Fine Art at Hebrew University and a faculty position at the Avni Institute in lithography. After completing his graduate studies Lutsky taught at MIAD, Carroll College, UW- Oshkosh and UW Colleges campuses of Washington County, Waukesha and Fond Du Lac before taking the position at UW- Manitowoc.

In addition to his academic acivities, Lutsky has spent time working in both commercial and fine art printing, and both here and in Israel – most recently at a residency in January 2009 at the Jerusalem Print Workshop. His work can be found in the public collections of: Hassneh Insurance Co., and the Israel Graphotek at the Tel Aviv Museum in Israel, the Kohler Art Library, UW Madison, Milwaukee Art Museum Print and Drawing Collection, and the Southern Graphics Council Archive in the US. His work can also be found in private collections in Israel, Japan, China, Belgium, Germany and the USA.

Michael Santini

On Friday, September 4^th, 2009 Gallery 2622 in Wauwatosa will host an artist reception for Michael Santini’s upcoming show, “Modern Medievalist.” Doors will be open from 6-9pm.

Michael Santini’s oil paintings and drawings immediately call to mind the skill and mastery of the Dutch Masters while evoking the marvelous imagination of the Surrealists. His true craft reveals hidden subtleties in light and shadow while expressing the bold clarity of color and line. Santini draws upon such skill to render works that express his contemporary observations with ageless narratives and uphold the quintessential spirit maintained by our greatest painters.

Along with his personal style and unique conceptual landscape, Michael Santini’s masterpieces are visually stunning as they portray the constant spiritual and worldly struggle between good and evil. Through clever and thoughtful symbolism he illustrates this concept. “As in reality,” Santini says, “the elements and characters in my work exist within a constant, yet ever changing boundary, rearranging themselves in each new piece. This is a framework of juxtapositions where repetition, symmetry and position continually respond and evaluate the essence of life.” Each of Santini’s works is profound yet universal in exploring principles and values of hope, choice, accountability, contemplation, and political and spiritual strife.

Michael Santini received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Salem College in West Virginia in 1968. His Artwork has been exhibited for nearly 40 years, with his first international show taking place in Paris, France in 1975. Santini’s works are part of premier private collections world wide, he has won numerous awards, accepted many significant commissions, and is widely published. Mr. Santini currently paints in an historic stone farmhouse in Wisconsin, where he lives with his wife Roberta.

New Photographic Assemblages

Crafted with light, texture and tone, the photographic assemblages of photographer Deone Jahnke will be exhibited in August at Gallery 2622, in Wauwatosa. The exhibition opens with a reception on Friday evening, August 7, from 6PM to 9PM with special guest performer, Heidi Spencer.

Deone’s imagery is built from photographs depicting mysterious locales, curious still life arrangements, as well bits of musical and artistic ephemera. The images are layered with textures and text, patterns and shapes. Quotes are sometimes woven into the imagery and tiny bits of words or phrases become simple graphic elements. Shapes echo and repeat; light and shadows dance. Onto the original and beautiful world of the image, another world is assembled. Mysteriously, the worlds emerge and recede – beckoning the viewer to engage.

A fine artist and a commercial photographer, working in the arts and entertainment industries, Deone’s assemblages are seen in commercial applications as well as on gallery walls. Recent commissions include a set of illustrative images for the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s upcoming season.

Based in her hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Deone also works regularly in the arts and music community in Nashville, Tennessee, where she recently opened a second studio workspace. Her commercial work for the music industry has been published internationally.

The Edelman Project

Metaphor & mythology fused with industrial steel, photographs and sweat brought inspirations from Marcel Duchamp, Degas and Picasso together to form a one-of-a-kind artistic experience. Sculpture artist Richard Edelman in collaboration with photographer Ryan Hainey present their vision, “The Edelman Project: Overview of the Beginning.” The opening reception is Friday July 10th at 6 pm.

Richard Edelman began working in the steel industry as a teenager. In the 1970’s, he studied philosophy and engineering at MIT in Ma. where he founded an underground anti-war press and published poetry as a protégé of poet Denise Levertov. After returning to the industrial backbone of America, he started a steel trading business in Chicago, which influenced his migration from writing to working with found steel and sculpture. His work has shown in the Chicago area over the past two years.

Ryan Hainey, a recent graduate of Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD), started his career as a freelance photographer for local businesses and has recently exhibited his fine art work in galleries throughout the Midwest. His debut, “Disjointed Complex” portrayed photographs of abandoned industrial architecture and its correlation to the human condition. His recent projects include lending his eye as a photographer with the creative mind and hands of Edelman.

Edelman and Hainey have worked together to create a multi-dimensional experience where various levels of perspectives are discovered. Edelman creates the sculptural work based on his inspirations from Degas dancers and Greco-Roman mythology to biblical figures. Upon completion of the sculptures, Hainey transports the works into conceptualized environments that correlate with each series. This process becomes a multi-faceted reflection of inspiration from the past revived by the new.

Friday, June 5th - Patricia Obletz

On Friday June 5th, from 6-9pm, we'll be hosting an artist reception opening the exhibit entitled "The Music in Art," by oil painter Patricia Obletz. This show will run through July 5th.

There will also be live music performed by oboist Rita Mitchell and her husband, classical guitarist Jim Mitchell.

New Gallery Hours

April Gallery Opening - Mark Your Calendar!

On Friday, April 10th, Gallery 2622 will be hosting an opening reception for sculptor Adam Caleb Buth. The show entitled “Beauty, Myth and the Human Connection” will be exhibiting bronze sculptures created by the up-and-coming local artist.

Also at the reception will be live music by marimba player Michael Neumeyer, and chocolates from the confectionary of REP Coatings, LLC.

The opening runs from 6-9pm on April 10th. Adam’s sculptures will be up through the month of April.

Beth Bojarski - Perfectly Flawed

This Friday, March 6, we'll have an artist reception for Beth Bojarski here at Gallery 2622. Beth's show entitled "Perfectly Flawed" will open that evening, and runs through the month of March. The opening will be held from 6-9pm.

A little bit about Robb's show

The weathered wood pieces Memmel creates are made of salvaged barn wood found at various locations across Wisconsin's countryside. He takes the wood, which often still shows signs of red barn paint, and attaches the pieces together by nail and screw. These pieces are then decorated with trim, old steel or iron, chains, loops, or birchwood. Memmel's wooden assemblages range in price from $500-$1,000.

Robb Memmel, now 84-years-old and living in Oconomowoc, has been an artist in the Milwaukee area for quite some time. Thirty years ago he was producing many one-man shows in the city, most of which featured works on social realism. Recently his weathered wood assemblages have been on display at Art Bar in Milwaukee and a gallery in Scottsdale, AZ. Memmel's Weathered Wood exhibit will be on display through the end of February. Regular gallery hours are on Mondays from 2-5pm, or by appointment.

The grand opening last weekend was a great success! Thanks to all who came out to celebrate, enjoy Ryan's great photography, and check out John's new studio space. We had a blast!

Right now the gallery hours are Mondays from 2-5 and by appointment. The number to call if you want to swing by some time other than 2-5pm on Mondays is (414)327-4531. I'm happy to meet people over there, and accommodate your schedule.

Ryan Hainey's work will be up through mid-November.

An Art Gallery in the Making

Gallery 2622 will be opening in Wauwatosa, WI in the early summer of 2008.

The Gallery name is also the street address - we will be located on Wauwatosa Ave. (76th St.), just 1/2 block south of Center St. in Wauwatosa. The building will also be the home of the John J. Korom photography studio.

Look forward to updates on the progress of Gallery 2622. We'll be sure to share photos, stories, and updates on coming events.
